The Laramie Project
The Tectonic Theatre Project Orkney present 'The Laramie Project'. The story of the death of 22yearold Matthew Shepard that at the time affected the whole community and the lasting effects reached the whole country and go on affecting the world today.
According to information on the Tectonic project, the similarities between Laramie and Stromness Orkney affected them all. Laramie population 26,000 Stromness 2,000, it is therefore probable these students know there population better than those in Laramie.
Having seen the show before I was interested to see little differences in direction, some points accentuated whereas others almost glossed over.
I thought it is a tight production and would recommend it to anyone whether they had seen another production or not. The cast, aged between 14 and 18, treat the subject with sensitivity and maturity.
One of the reasons for bringing this show to the fringe was given as "It’s a warning to small, self-satisfied communities, and small, self-satisfied people everywhere."
