Unaccustomed To My Name
She is a young Polish -American girl fresh out of college, in the middle of a crisis of confidence and with an overbearing mother. What does Sophie do? She sits in the bathroom and ponders her life and discovers her alter ego, Sonya, a Siberian who enjoys life in bars and the attentions she receives. Soyna's background is of course all make-believe and it can only be a matter of time till this is discovered.
This powerfully written piece by Marta Rainer, who is also the performer, is beautifully captivating. Ms Rainer has charisma and presence, whichever role she is playing at the time just springs to life and the 70 minutes fly by
This well crafted play is a must see, but be quick, it only runs to the 21st.
