I
must confess that I am not really a Bronte fan, but the idea of
this play appealed to me in the Fringe Programme.
The play centres on the eve
of Charlotte Bronte's wedding to the local curate, who is not
anything like the passionate character Mr Rochester from her book
Jane Eyre.
We
learn an abridged version of the Bronte dynasty together with the
trials they experienced in real life and in attempting to get
their books published.
This
play, written and performed by Angela Barlow just oozes
professionalism, is nicely staged and directed and the ladies
rather small statue belies her talent and charisma that at times
threatens to swamp the whole theatre.
A
definite must for Bronte fans, and it should also be on your list
for quality theatre also.
Ms
Barlow is also performing after Chekov on alternative dates, and
I'm frantically rearranging my schedule to find that one in too.
