Forbidden
is a new play written by Pat Rowe, is set in wartime Berlin and
centres around the relationship between Lilly, a German mother
who's husband is away at war, played by Clare Grogan, and Felice,
a younger Jewish girl, played by Cordelia Reyner.
The
love they find together is forbidden on several levels and the
problems this relationship causes both to themselves and their
families and friends is the axis on which the play pivots.
The
two leading ladies together with Andy Snowball as Erich, Chandika
Chevli as Elenai as well as Robin Sneller and Victoria Jeffrey
playing assorted minor roles all turn in competent performances. I
appreciate that the piece is entertaining, but I expected a far
darker feel, especially given the setting and subject matter.
Still,
that’s just my opinion, you may think differently. Either way,
there will be many worse way of spending just over an hour in the
Fringe this year.
