Although I was aware of Neil Simon as a
play write I was previously unaware of this piece based on a series
of short stories by Anton Chekov so was intrigued to see what a
collaboration of the two would come across like.
The stories although widely varying are
seamlessly linked by this talented young American cast all of which
play their roles with style.
From a man who accidentally sneezes on the
boss at a theatrical performance, a nanny being bullied by her
charge’s mother through a rake famous for seducing other men’s
wives actually using the husband to do the seducing on his behalf to
an old couple meeting in the park occasionally, who are secretly
attracted to each other a whole gambit of ages and emotions are
portrayed.
The acting space is not the easiest to
direct for, but obviously the company have designed this production
to suit the limitations and although this was the first day of the
run everything worked how it should.
All in all a thoroughly professional
performance well worthy of a visit and a good way to start one’s
Fringe day.
