Lizzie Roper’s show is about sex, but it
is not about sexual titillation. During her introductory
warm up,
she explains how she put the show together. She placed ads to ask
people to reveal their sexual experiences and, much to her surprise,
she gained quite a wide ranging response.
Her show is a distillation of the taped
recordings her volunteers made. She plays these into herself using
an MP3 player and headphones. She takes on the role of the various
persons she is hearing. There is a whole range of sexual practice
described – imagine words ending in ‘-ing’. It is fascinating
learning what people get up to and the humour is of the ironic type.
It is rather a one paced show, albeit
skilfully done. Stopping the tape at some point towards the end and
putting in some of her own material, would have given some variety.
