The world has gone soft and Chopper is here
to let us know how we can harden the f*** up.
Performer Heath Franklin is Chopper, based
on the real life criminal Mark ‘Chopper’ Read.
His Chopper is an intimidating but amusing presence, venting
his anger at the weakness of the world.
This means we get rants about Emos, Aussie Rules Football and
women who write letters of complaint about his show – which he
hilariously responds to. In
addition we get a visual presentation of the ‘World Tour of
Hardness’, a fantastically funny section of the show.
Although Chopper may come across as
boorish, Franklin’s performance showcases his intelligence and
when he uses members of the audience his natural humour comes
across, all of which is thoroughly entertaining.
Chopper has built up a cult following in Australia, which was
reflected in the audience. However, on the basis of this show it can’t be too soon
before he gains a similar following this side of the hemisphere.
