From the title of this show I was
half-expecting a sugary-sweet, twee production which would
concentrate on the life-affirming.
I wasn’t too reassured when the opening number was
‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’.
However, as the show kicked off properly I was pleasantly
surprised.
Chicken Bones for the Teenage Soup is a
collection of short scenes concentrating on such themes as Optimism
and Acceptance. Each
scene presented either a comic fable with an ‘alternative’ moral
message, or a short performance with a sting in the tale.
All of them presented a series of humourous (some might say
realistic) life lessons. Furthermore, each and every scene was a joy to watch and were
nicely performed by the all-female teenage cast. These young performers had a great sense of timing and knew
how to work the laughs.
A charming and quirky production that was a
pleasure to discover at 10.30pm on a Friday night.
