Bob Karper is the story teller in his one
man play. He provides his own live musical accompaniment on
keyboards and accordion. There is a back screen on which is
projected photographs and film taken during his life since childhood
to his current location in Japan.
It is a curious mix, part autobiographical
and biographical. Several stories are recounted on the theme of
friendship, breaking up and coming together. The final story works
best illustrating the recovery of friendship after a huge time gap.
Along the way we are treated to glass of
saki, or orange juice, and we receive a short Japanese lesson. Bob
Karper’s style is soft and low key. It is intriguing trying to
make sense of it all.
