Kahlil
Ashanti has been at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival before with Basic
Training, I was unable to get to see it then but got to see it in
the Assembly Rooms.
As
with a high percentage of one man shows this is basically Kahlil's
life story up to date, he plays all the central characters in his
life and we meet one or two others thanks to the imagination.
His
lovely mother, bigoted dad, comrades during basic training, uncle,
taxi drivers, performers and bullying officers. He has special
individual traits for each character and it is obvious which one he
is with at any time. His inclusion of the audience is interesting if uncomfortable at times.
Very
cleverly written and performed with never a dull moment it is
already one of the must see shows of this Fringe and every word
true.
