There are shows which are unique and shows
that are spectacular. This show truly puts the two together along
with a humorous approach. The performers are two singing
percussionists, Christian von Richtofen and Kristian Bader. They
take a car (a Nissan Micra on the day I saw them) and fully exploit
the full range of its percussive qualities.
Each part of the car is drummed by hand,
foot, crowbar or whatever else comes to hand to pound out music as
diverse as Latin rhythms to Scotland the Brave. In the process the
car is steadily trashed to get just the right sound. The finale is a
big musical sequence – the song the highly appropriate ‘If I had
a Hammer’ followed by excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping
Beauty when literally sparks fly.
This show is likely to be one of the most
popular on the Fringe attracting the full age range. Kids will love
it as will those who have something of the child in their
personality.
