Jim
Cartwright has written a number of plays, probably the best known
of which is ‘Little Voice’, which was made into a film a year
or two ago, and ‘Two’ a multi character piece for two actors.
‘Road’,
is another and is set in the late eighties with a group of largely
dysfunctional characters who all inhabit the road.
I don't think that there is any one
person that has any appeal but all are excellently portrayed by
this young and versatile cast. I was impressed, almost too
impressed at times, with the set. It was too realistic, one could
imagine the smell of the rotting garbage and discarded chip
papers, and the narrator Scullery superbly played by Paul Sargeson
really looked and acted like the town drunk he portrayed.
Stephanie Thorpe, Lorna Kay, Lucy Overton, Tom Biglin, Kelly
Larkman, Dan Rees, Sam Drinkall, Rob Guilliatt and Sarah Johnson
all played their parts well, but I can say it was the first
Harland show I was ever pleased to be over so I could escape the
degradation.
