This
excellent play, written and directed by Kate Sargent, who also
plays Kelly an American theatre student, starts off in a
restaurant as three couples are meeting on blind dates and things
are not going well. Investment banker Ben, Daniel Wilson is not
getting on with student Kelly, personal trainer Mark played by
Frederick Sandy and his date Jessica, Kirsten Shaw who works with
Ben are certainly in trouble were as Laura, Kathryn Fray and her
date Peter, played by Jim Fish are just having first date nerves.
The
action starts and with a few twists and turns along the way the
inter personal relationships develop, or in some cases
disintegrate.
This
is a well written play and the only problem I had was it was not
long enough. The programme notes inform that this is abridged from
the original play, and I understand that the pressure of time on
the Fringe has enforced this scaling down, but I really would have
liked to see it in all it's glory.
Still,
that aside this version is still very well worth seeing.
