Mort
Harland Hamstrings Theatre Group
Okay, I hold my hand up, I've never read anything by Terry Pratchett, because what I've heard about his books does not appeal to me, so I confess I visited this production with some trepidation.
I should not have worried. As with all Harland Hamstrings shows their treatment makes this Stephen Briggs stage adaptation not only very watchable, but also most enjoyable.
The versatility and talent of the cast is as one has come to expect from this company together with the excellent set and inventive direction captured the imagination of young and old alike in the near capacity audience.
The whole cast certainly play their part in making this production the success it undoubtedly is, but I would like to single out two performances that really impressed me, Heather Thompson in the title role and after many years slaving away behind the scenes, the Fringe acting debut of Luke Conlon as Death, not that you could recognise him in that costume.
So, to see what happens when the Grim Reaper takes a day off and leaves his apprentice Mort in charge make you’re way to the Subway. Oh and something else, I may even start reading Terry Pratchett.
