A Floating Brothel
Negativequity
Negative Equity are a theatre company that visit the Fringe on a regular basis and each time I have seen their performances they have always been innovative and of high quality, and I am pleased to say that this year's offering is of the same high standard.
This play has attracted a fair amount of publicity due to the content, and yes, their is some nudity, but certainly far less than in many other productions I have seen over the years on the Fringe and in mainstream theatre.
The first thing I should mention is the set. I don't think I have seen a more imposing structure in a Fringe show ever. The design of this 'ship' has to be seen to be believed and the way the cast use it at times, it's easy to see why it has to be so substantial.
This play is written by cast member Peter Machen and tells the story of the transportation of women, criminals and prostitutes to increase the breeding stock for the convicts previously transported to Australia. In a little over an hour Machen together with Rebekah Fortune, Allie Croker, Elizabeth Barnsley and  John Kindersleyy play ships crew, the 'ladies' and assorted others ,with skill and versatility. A cleverly written script, physical theatre skills, creative lighting and direction by Machen and Ms Fortune all combine to enhance this production.
I would thoroughly recommend this show to anyone who wants their fare different and dramatic
