After Sex all Animals are Sad
Velocet
How best to describe this show? Is it a comedy? Well there are certainly numerous funny lines. Is it a drama? Well it's certainly dramatic throughout. This dark piece of theatre, let's settle on that I found compulsive.
Christine, played by Anna James Manni, and her partner, Jerry, Thom Disney, are experiencing problems with their relationship, it's not that they are unhappy but..... While Jerry is working on his PHD, Christine teaches and has church involvements, but curtailing their time for each other.
The death of Christine's ex-boyfriend prompts her to get involved with the churches programme of writing to prisoners and for 6 months she writes to convicted murderer Max. Things progresses to her visiting Max in jail and on to supplying him with explicit photos of herself, as she gradually finds herself drawn to Max and away from Jerry, safe in the knowledge that she and Max can go nowhere.
Then right out of the blue circumstances alter and Christine has to re-evaluate her position.
The play co-written by Adam Brace, who also played Max, had me enthralled and has it drew to a conclusion I could not believe I'd been there for an hour.
All power to the actors who were superb and the writing gripping, perhaps the scene changes could be the only thing that distracted from an otherwise excellent production.
