Company East and Mugen Taiko
Dojo have joined together this year for the ‘Rin-Ne-Ten-Sho:
Taiko Drumming and Dance Explosion’ which explore the themes of
reincarnation and karma.
Company East use six dancers
who wear fairly traditional costumes, the dance moves vary from
minutely expressive precise movements to those more associated
with those of martial-arts. Five dancers perform the main
programme with the sixth joining in for one section.
Mugen Taiko Dojo originates
from South Lanarkshire and the four musicians are Europe’s only
touring Taiko group. They composed and played the music for this
performance.
Although I enjoyed the
production it was not as fast and furious as I had expected and
unfortunately the slide show was not entirely clear and the slides
with writing were not up long enough to read.
A fascinating show and
something out of the usual.
