Choreographer Kuei-Chuan
Yang established the Assembly Dance Theatre in October 1993 in
Pan-Chaio (the capital of Taipei Country).
It is the first modern dance group in the area.
Described as a cohesive and cogent blend of modern western
dancing techniques with the transcendent, spiritual essence of
National Chinese cultural arts. This superbly executed and
fascinating show will delight anyone with an interest in physical
theatre.
The mixture of brash modern
dance and some gymnastics with more traditional extremely precise
almost miniscule movements combined in a show that is both
exhilarating and fascinating. The programme consisted of three
short dances, “The Gift”, “Flower, Leaf and Branch” and
finally “Lily”. The
first two were more traditional in movement and costume whereas
the third was up to date and had more of a storyline to follow.
The seven dancers all work
extremely hard and the show is worth seeing, if not for the
spectacle, then for the precise graceful movements of the
traditional dance.
