The Ultimate Fairytale

There are a number of shows in the children’s section of the Fringe brochure which deal with the genre of Fairy Tales.  But how many of them allow the audience a chance to determine the action?  That was just one of the delights in this family friendly show.
Professor Higgenbottom (yes it is a name) is on a quest to discover the ‘Ultimate Fairytale’ and she needs your help.  The audience is given the chance to choose their perfect Prince, Princess and Wicked Stepmother through the very simple act of holding up a piece of card.  The fairytale is chosen through a number of showcase scenes which reference popular culture, leading us to bear witness to ‘Princess Idol’ and the very entertaining ‘Jeffrey Vile’ show.  Along the way there are plenty of nods to classic fairy tales and knowing references to conventions of the genre.
There are also plenty of laughs to be found throughout this quirky little show.  Professor Higgenbottom holds the action together superbly and there are standout performances from emo Princess Stephanie and wicked stepmother Shania – a chavvy delight.  All in all it’s a show which successfully entertains those of all ages.
