Not
perhaps 'The Little Mermaid' Disney has created for us to love, but
with a cast of seven, C Theatre do a superb job.
Mermaids
may be beautiful and have the most mesmerising voices in the world
and under the sea but they are also the cruelest creatures in
creation. That is with the exception of the youngest, smallest, most
beautiful of all, 'the Little Mermaid'.
Seven very talented performers guide us
through her story and those surrounding her. The main performer
stays in character whilst all the others have several parts to play.
As with most C Theatre productions they utilise minimal props and
stage dressings preferring to rely on the talents of their
performers to lead you through the story.
Unlike
most of the other shows I have seen in their repertoire I suggest
you have tissues to hand if like me you are a great big softy. The
kids seemed to lap it up but most of the adults seemed to have a bit
of a lump in their throats.
This
is a superb example of what a traditional true fringe theatre
production should be, well written, directed and performed by an
enthusiastic cast of superbly talented performers who know how to
enjoy their work whilst encouraging an audience to do so as well.
