Dulcinea Langfelder gives an impeccable
performance as Victoria in this enthralling and entrancing
production blending comedy, dance and film animation. Victoria first
appears as on old woman in a hospital wheelchair. She addresses the
audience as if they are visiting her. It is immediately obvious her
mind is confused, which is enhanced by the to and fro movements she
makes in the wheelchair.
The comedy borders on the hilarious in the
exchanges she has with the exasperated medical orderly played by
Eric Gingras. However, the play operates on a much deeper level in
the dream like dance sequences that reveal the imagination and
memories that exist in Victoria’s mind. The wheelchair is an
integral part of the story, featuring as a trap in her real
existence but as dance partner in her sub-conscious. As the play
develops the humour becomes darker and more moving.
Although Dulcinea Langfelder dominates the
stage, she depends so much on the perfect timing of the technical
team in what is a dynamic fusion of set movement, film, lighting and
music. A beautifully crafted and thoughtful piece of theatre.
