Murray Lachlan Young starts his Modern
Cautionary Tales for Children well, hyping up the children in the
audience as successfully as several litres of Irn Bru.
He creates a real enthusiasm for his show and ensures that
the children are involved at all stages.
In fact, most of the entertainment value in
the show comes from the contributions made by the children.
As Young fires out questions at the young audience the
answers which come back to him can be both unexpected and hilarious.
Young works well with the children throughout and holds their
attention as he relates his cautionary poetical tales of children
who suck their thumb, fail to wash behind their ears or don’t
flush the loo. The
material is clearly aimed at the kids and they love it, getting a
particular kick out of being chosen by Young to join him on stage
for a fantastically confused finale.
It’s an excellent show for the 5-10 age
group it’s pitched at and will ensure that these kids are fired up
and enthused by poetry.
