Aye!
Productions Present 'The Ballad' described as a story without words.
Composed
by Kathryn Sawers who is also the Pianist, directed by Jonathan
Campbell who is also in charge of the wire during the flying
sequences. The two performers are Saul Garcea and Tara Hodgson.
The set appears to be either a small cove
or lakeside with driftwood and a pile of stones, enter a woman in
red who settles on the wood. We then see a man flying a kite, they
both look at each other without seeming to acknowledge the others
presence. Slowly they come together until it is time for her to go.
Sadly he winds in the kite to find her swinging from it. They then
perform an ariel ballet displaying their love affair, she comes down
from the wires and they get out a large loop of material with which
they display the marriage through the tying of the knot. The
conception of a child then 9 rocks later, signifying the length of
the pregnancy, the birth of a child and death of the mother. We end
up where we began with a man a woman and a kite!
This is a lovely movement piece with no
words spoken and very few sung, the movement on the floor contrasts
yet compliments the flying, it is an interesting, unusual and
entertaining show.
