The
old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” could rarely
be better used than to describe the follow-up to Legally Blonde
which was a box-office success a couple of years ago.
The
story is extremely similar to the first film, with the “fish out
of water” character being played, once again, by Reese
Witherspoon. This time around though, Elle Woods (Witherspoon) has
graduated from Harvard Law School, and is now a successful lawyer.
She has a wedding in the offing, and life is fine.
When
Elle stumbles upon the subject of animal testing, she decides that
to make a difference she has to change the law. This means going
to Congress in Washington. The rest is pretty predictable, as it
is very similar to the original.
Witherspoon
is charming as Elle, and manages to balance the airhead and
academic sides of her character perfectly; something that she
perfected in the original. As the central character, she plays it
pretty straight, and leaves most of the outrageous gags to the
supporting players.
Fans
of the first film will find it enjoyable, and there are some funny
scenes, but it is too similar to the original, but will no doubt
do a good bit of business at the box-office, to justify Reese
Witherspoon’s status as one of Hollywood’s top paid females,
and further fuel the development of Legally Blonde 3, which is
already being discussed
