A sell
out audience were in attendance for Jimmy Carr’s first appearance in
Dunfermline and it was with great enthusiasm that the crowd filtered
into the theatre, full of expectation.
If you
had seen Jimmy Carr at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2008, then you would know
most of the material, as this was almost exactly the same show that he
performed to sell out audiences last year.
However,
it was a great coup for the team behind the Alhambra to have this
outstanding stand up comedian perform in Dunfermline and the audience
were right behind him with every joke.
The
first half suffered from lack of volume on either the mike or the p.a.
which made it difficult to catch a lot of his material from the upper
circle. That said, the majority of the audience were lapping it up and
Jimmy Carr kept pushing the boundaries.
You
would find it very difficult to repeat many of his gags, but they come
fast and furious and are very well written. No subject is taboo as he
covers everything from relationships, sex and religion and many other
subjects that sometimes had the audience gasping or audibly cringing
with the occasional tut, tut, tut of disapproval.
With a
first act of just over an hour and ten minutes Jimmy left the stage and
the audience filtered to the bar for a very welcome refreshment.
Twenty
minutes later Jimmy Carr was back for his second set and it was
noticeable that the volume on the mike or the p.a. had been turned up,
This made for a much more enjoyable second set and he very quickly got
down to tackling some subjects which were not for the squeamish. Again,
the audience loved it and with some light hearted digs at the locals the
crowd were definitely happy for Jimmy Carr to be with them.
At just
over two hours Jimmy Carr at the Alhambra was a great comedy moment, the
audience loved it. Even having seen the same show at the Fringe in 2008,
I would still give this performance 8 out of 10.
