I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change! |
|||||||||||||||||||
Originally
performed by a cast of four “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now
Change” is a series of scenes connected by the central theme of love
and relationships. Starting from the first date, we are guided through
life, utilising the shows tagline ‘Everything you have ever secretly
thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and
in-laws, but were afraid to admit’. Each vignette although connected
could stand alone.
Kirkcaldy’s
Adam Smith College department of Creative and Theatre Arts has expanded
the cast to utilise 14 first and second year students. The normal 2
female 2 male presentation has been carefully carved up too accommodate
this 10 female 4 male version, although two of the male characters are
portrayed by Catriona Nicol and Claire MacDougal. The set is a little
like a Manhattan skyline with apertures in two of the high-rise
buildings, a piano behind a stretch of scenery like a bar and finally a
giant heart both with cut outs. The four apertures are used regularly
throughout the show.
The
cast are all very talented youngsters with various levels of experience
on stage, from those appearing in their first musical to those who have
had starring roles throughout Fife and beyond. I thought the show would
be more confusing than ever with such a large cast, but no, the constant
changing characters added to the interest in the show. Scenes varied
from monologues, solos, duets, four-handers, up to full ensemble
numbers. Some of the students display superb acting talents and several
have brilliant singing voices. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by
all.
