Buddy
Whitington, No Mean City Blues and American Festival,
02
Academy Glasgow Wednesday 22nd April 2009.
I had
never heard Buddy Whitington before attending the No Mean City Blues
& Americana Festival at the 02 Academy in Glasgow but was struck by
the talent of this amazing blues guitarist. As part of a three piece
band, these guys took to the stage and tore it up with some of the
finest, tightest blues playing I’ve ever witnessed. Although the
material was mostly unfamiliar to me the not so good sound mix didn’t
help with the clarity of the vocals or when Buddy was introducing the
numbers and the band. However, putting these small gremlins to one side
the 45 minute set showed a very competent blues guitarist and
singer/songwriter in his own right, who has worked with the legendary
John Mayall since 1993.
Buddy
returns to Scotland to play “The Ferry” (formerly known as the
Renfrew Ferry) on Wednesday May 6th 2009 and I would
recommend getting a ticket for this gig if you like the Blues and a
great value show.
