Wicked Wenches Special March

Wicked Wenches at The Stand Comedy Club provides an outlet for female comedians both experienced and relatively new to the circuit. Normally we get a host or compere, along with three other acts but with this being a special we got the diminutive yet hugely talented Susan Calman as our host and warm up act followed by the self confessed daytime TV Detective junky Natalie Haynes.
In all the times Geoff and I have seen Susan we had not yet heard any of her material duplicated. This was the first occasion we were aware of some of her trade storylines. Susan’s strength is in being able to handle her audiences and interact cleverly whilst warming us up for the next act or in this case the headliner.
Geoff and I had seen Natalie individually in the past although he enjoyed her show I absolutely adored her 2006 Edinburgh Fringe show ‘Watching The Detectives’ and was really looking forward to seeing her again.  I was definitely not disappointed.
Natalie had me reaching for my inhaler and trying to stop myself rolling about the floor. Her subject matter is wide and varied and I am glad to report she included some material from her previous show. Natalie sees herself as a middle-aged motor-mouth with some studenty traits left over from her ‘youth’. Apart from her vegetarianism we both see eye to eye on most topics she covered particularly our thoughts on animals and children, in particular younger parents with babies in giant perambulators! aquarobics, banks, Ikea, swimming, geometry, particularly triangles and certain swear words. My advice to anyone going to see Ms Haynes is to sit back enjoy and listen very quickly.
