Craig Hill and Jill Peacock are both
outstanding comedians in their own rights but together they spark off
each other taking musical comedy in particular to another level.
Both having great singing voices and wicked senses of humour they
have a great talent for taking songs, rewriting the lyrics and placing
their own unique spin on the number. It is an absolute delight to watch
Craig and Jill perform either individually or together.
On this edition of OOT II, the gay or at least
gay friendly monthly extravaganza, Craig and Jill were joined by Garry
Dobson and Stuart Murphy. Garry and Stuart are Scotland’s only
full-time improv troupe, The Stand Players, who regularly present and
perform the Stand’s popular “Whose Lunch Is It Anyway?” It is obvious this pair knows each other very well from the
way they bounce off each other; they also seem to attempt to make the
other corpse at times. The slick presentation is thoroughly enjoyable
but improv is not what it used to be, as I feel we have become used to
it over the past 20 years or so.
The headline guest on this occasion was Sabrina
Matthews, who hails from the San Francisco Bay Area of California. She
herself admits that at first glance appearances are deceptive, she has
occasionally been called Sir instead of Ma’am and one of her
mother’s aims in life is to ‘flounce her up’ a little. It was fun
watching the various ways in which differences in language across the
Atlantic can cause hilarity. Some of these slips seem genuine but others
came over contrived. I look
forward to seeing more of Sabrina in the future.
The
next offering from OOT II is on April 15, and for details of this and
all other comedy nights that are on at The Stand, both in Edinburgh and
Glasgow check out their website www.thestand.co.uk
