Non Fringe   2008

Mark Roberts and Lynsay B.

What do you do if you have recently got married, had a lovely celebration on the day, but some of your friends and family were unable to attend?
Normally go off have a fantastic honeymoon, come home and see everyone in the passing.
But then no one has ever accused ‘Mad Mark Roberts’ as being normal have they? And it seems that this has rubbed off onto new missus Lynsay. They arrange a special party at the local Bowling Club and provide the entertainment themselves by performing a superb cabaret.
Mark has been performing, both as a singer and as a comedian for years both in the Canary Islands and recently back home in the UK. Lynsay was previously a karaoke fanatic for years. However MMR obviously recognised in Lynsay B more than a life partner, he spotted her potential as a performer as well.  It was back around Valentine ’s Day 2007 that we first saw this combination and have been able to see their progress over the last 18 months on a number of occasions.
Mark, as befits a ‘old pro’ of many years standing of course is confidence personified. He plays his crowd like a true maestro, but the development of Lynsay is more pronounced. Nobody could ever doubt her singing abilities but, naturally she was less confident with the bits in between the songs. This lack of self belief has mostly disappeared, and where she may never may be as confident as her other half, who could?, it certainly made her section even more enjoyable.
They major on 50’s and  60’s music, timeless classics from the likes of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Chirelles, Little Eva and Dion to mention a few,  touching on Fairground Attraction ,Tom Jones and Barry Manilow  as well as the Wets and Boyzone…. The list goes on.
The material is tailored to suit their voices and their audience and although they are superb at this, just occasionally I would like to see them expand the repertoire to include some slightly newer stuff, but then that could just be me. I also love the occasional duet they throw in, I really feel they are ideally suited in duets as they seem to be in real life, and I’m sure I am not alone in wishing they did more of them.
But if you want a good night out, they would be a hard act to beat, quality singing, funny comedy and if their roadshow is in town their ‘ roadies’ after show disco keeps the party going all night.
