Non Fringe   Comedy   2007

Sarah Kendall : Attention Seeker

I think it was nearly six years ago that I first became aware of Sarah Kendall during the Fringe playing to a select audience in The Peppermint Lounge, and I must admit I initially saw her show mainly because it fitted a gap I had.
One hour later this flame haired Aussie had become a must see for every Fringe she has attended and I cannot be alone in my opinion of her as a ‘bonza’ comic as she is now playing prestigious venues and was nominated for the Perrier award in 2004 as well.
So I was delighted to se one of my favourite acts playing my favourite comedy club, The Stand Edinburgh as part of her spring tour and quickly booked my ticket
The show, entitled Attention Seeker, is in essence the same as she delivered during Fringe 2006, and I gave that a Five star rating because I enjoyed it so much, and to see it this time in the intimate space that is the Stand added to the experience rather than detracted from it. Ms Kendall always makes me feel that she is talking to me, not a packed room and this feeling was intensified given the location, but what was consistent was the captivating delivery and humour of this exceptionally funny lady.
Sarah does not really tell jokes, but she is a keen observer of life and all its nuances, and can find mirth in some very strange places, such as a visit to a recording of The Rikki Lake Show, a close encounter at a Leeds club, a hen party in a karaoke bar and school memories.
What makes this antipodean lady a must for me is hard to quantify, but she just has ‘it’, comedy talent, timing and the fact that she is highly funny are all just part, I suggest you go and check out for yourself, ‘cause if you don’t you will have really missed out.
Check out Sarah’s web site www.sarahkendall.com for the rest of her tour and www.thestand.co.uk for their future programme.
