Believe
it or not this is only the third time Geoff and I have seen the ultra
talented, dark and brooding Reginald D Hunter. Since his Edinburgh
Fringe Festival Debut in 2002, for which he received a Perrier Best
Newcomer Award Nomination, he has been back at the fringe every year
receiving nominations for the main Perrier Award in 2003 and 2004, which
sadly he did not win. This is the second time we have seen Reginald at
the Stand Comedy Club in Edinburgh firstly headlining the show on 29th
June 2006, on this second occasion Reginald had the whole show to
himself and boy were the audience up for him.
Despite
suffering from the start of a cold Reginald gathered this rowdy crowd up
in his gorgeous, well-manicured, silky smooth hands and guided us on a
journey of great comic proportions. For those of you who have not seen
my past review, ‘The Stand Comedy Club 29th June 2006’, I
am obsessed by Reginald’s hands.
He
may not be king of the one liners he makes you listen carefully to him
and use the grey matter, His comedy is definitely cerebral, he loves
word play and his outlook on life is definitely unique, although he is
more than willing to listen to others opinion and respects it whether he
agrees or not. The audience laughed at such a variety of topics and
subjects presented to us from his point of view it is difficult to
describe even a fraction of the subject matter. He, like many others,
seem to get distracted away from a storyline, by a sudden flash or
thought, to return to the original gag later and finish it.
He
seems to get undeserved slatings from some critics for not going on
about his sexuality and the assumed size of the anatomy associated with
tall gentlemen from his specific ethnic background, his mere presence
oozes testosterone he just doesn’t need to include it in his set.
Reginald
is hoping to do the ‘Glasgow Comedy Festival’ in March and returning
to ‘The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2008’ watch this space for news as
soon as we get it.
Just
a quick note about ‘The Stand Comedy Club’ although Geoff and I have
not managed to get to the Glasgow club yet we hope to in 2008, we would
like to express out admiration of and thanks to the staff, office
workers and management for a club which provides a superb service for a
very reasonable cost.
