It
seems months ago that the Fringe finished, well I suppose that it
has been two, but one of our favourite stand-ups Ed Byrne was
making a return to Scotland with his lengthy solo tour, so we were
there with bells on at his Kirkcaldy gig.
A
little bird had whispered that his opening act was a young guy we
have been aware of for a while, Matt Kirschen, well that was an
added bonus.
It
was the same as on his last tour that the star attraction Ed,
warmed up the audience for the support act, strange but nice, and
the busy Tuesday night crowd were then treated royally to 30
minutes of the inimitable humour that only Matt can deliver. To
most of the audience I'm sure he was a new name, but judging by
their appreciation of
this diminutive comic with an enormous talent, well surely
he will be a major star in the near future.
A
short interval and then role reversal, Matt warmed up a little for
Ed and the master took us through his set for well in the excess
of an hour. It was in principle the same framework of the show he
sold out at the Fringe, but although we had seen some of the
material before, such is the quality, that it lost none of it's
impact and if and when the DVD of this show comes out we'll be first in line to
buy a copy. Byrne is a very charismatic comedian, and once he has
you under his spell, and it won't take long, you will be hooked.
It
is hard to believe that the first time we witnessed him on stage
was ten years ago, and he doesn't look any older than he did then,
and hopefully we will be there witnessing him live on stage for at
least another ten if not more.
Ed
& Matt are on tour until 26 November, so if you get a chance
to catch them in your area do so, the dates and all other info can
be obtained at www.edbyrne.com
including details of how to obtain a copy of his current DVD
Pedantic & Whimsical which would make an ideal Christmas
present!!! (Hint,Hint)
