In
the thirty or more years I have been attending live shows, I have seen
most forms of entertainment, with the exception of opera, and before
last night ballet, so I decided it was about time I addressed the
situation.
For the second time in six months the world
renowned Moscow
Ballet - La Classique were visiting Dunfermline’s premier theatre The
Alhambra, having previously been there with their ‘Sleeping Beauty’.
The production on offer this time was possibly the world’s favourite
ballet ‘Swan Lake’ and around eight hundred patrons were in
attenance to check if this was of the same quality.
This is
the ballet that every great dancer wants to be part of and the
exceptionally gifted dancers, in excess of thirty it seemed, certainly
gave it everything they had for the two hours that they were on stage.
As a
rank novice to this entertainment I must admit that I was a little lost
at times as to the storyline, I’ve never watched it on TV either, but
it didn’t matter. I was drawn in to the total experience that was on
offer.
Of course the excellent music, composed by Tchiakovsky,
greatly enhanced the spectacle, but the staging, the costumes, the choreography
and especially the superb dancing by one and all, from the humblest
member of the ensemble to the principals was amazing.
It
was so enthralling that I couldn’t believe I hadbeen watching for the
best part of 120 minutes, it only seemed like minutes, but like all good
things unfortunately all good things have to come to an end.
So
will it be another thirty years before I venture to see another ballet?
I seriously doubt it. And who knows, it may be opera next.
The
Alhambra Theatre has a whole host of wide ranging shows on offer over
the next few months, major comedy names, West End musicals, music and
theatre are all on the menu so check out the website www.alhambradunfermline.com
