It is some time since I got to see Lucy Porter
perform, I can safely say, this good-looking petit powerhouse of fun is
a particular favourite of both of us.
Geoff got to see Lucy’s show this past Fringe and again at last
November’s Wicked Wenches but this was the first time I had seen Lucy
for ages.
Lucy is in the middle of a UK wide tour and
thanks to her recent TV exposure more people want to see this great
comedian than ever. We had almost expected a warm-up act but were
delighted when young Ms Porter introduced herself and spent about forty
five minutes chatting to the audience, teasing the Carnegie Hall
technical staff and making us laugh before a short interval and
“Fool’s Gold”.
Not only is Lucy’s show about her dislike of
Gold and the effect it has on her. She shares the joy of her recent
wedding last year and the new arrival they are expecting towards the end
of this year. The show is jam packed full of superb comedy, with Lucy
laughing at herself, her family, ostentatious hotels, religion, Rappers,
edible gold and so much more. She
manages to include a history lesson as well as one on the periodic table
out of which we get both poetry and a competition. Prizes are a
selection of ‘Gold’ related items. She still manages to shock her
audiences with the occasional unexpected outburst of naughtiness.
As petit as Ms Porter is, her charisma
saturates the theatre filling us all with a warm fuzzy feeling which
fights with the constant comedic chuckles she creates.
All that is left to be said is that the 2010
Edinburgh Fringe will be a little sadder without her performance, but
Geoff and I look forward to seeing her as soon as possible.
