Whether
Geoff and I are just lucky with our talented friends or whether we
choose to be surrounded by those who can sing and make people laugh I
have not yet decided. In Blue Delta we seem to have amalgamated a bit of
both.
We
have known Lynsay (Bennett) for some years and admired her talent for
karaoke but pushed her to try other songs by various people. Along came
‘Mad Mark Roberts’ a seasoned performer in the holiday hotspots of
Europe he met Lynsay and came back to the UK. They married and with
Mark’s help both Lynsay and Mark explored different genres. We have
known Ian Craig for about as long as Lynsay and it was not surprising
that he soon joined the duo, playing guitar. Geoff and I became aware of
drummer Scott Christie and bass player Jon McLuskey when we saw the five
at a charity gig in 2009. Thus Blue Delta was born.
We
saw them perform at the Woodside hotel in Aberdour in December and were
wowed by the new presentation. Just two months later and the band are
going from strength to strength. It is easy to see that this concoction
is definitely a winning one, as this gig was predominately a Valentines
celebration they concentrated on the more ballady range of their ever
increasing repertoire, still managing to fit in a few rock-pop numbers.
Working together as a tight knit unit when things go a little awry due
to technical problems some off the cuff busking covered the change of
lead. The widening scope of musical numbers and vocal styles with their
willingness to try almost anything is making Blue Delta a force to be
reckoned with. Lynsay is settling in to her lead vocals role supporting
Mark in turn. I would like to see a few more duets plus perhaps hear a
little more from both Scott and Jon.
Despite
the small audience on Saturday 13th February we had a superb
night, with the occasional groan at Marks contrived links. Geoff said it
all in his last review when he pronounced them as being ‘Fan-tas-tic!’
I am prepared to go further and say Am-az-ing!
My
advice to those of you in Fife to look out and go and see this band
where ever they are performing, check out the website for further
details www.blue-delta.com
