Geoff has been a big fan of Scottish songbird
Amy Macdonald since his first hearing of her second single “Mr Rock
and Roll”. After getting her album ‘This is the Life’ he joined
her fan club and booked our tickets for the HMV Cinema Edinburgh Gig of
her 2010 tour as soon as they came on sale.
I like Ms Macdonald and was quite happy to go
along. We suspected there would be a support act and on this occasion it
was Jersey Budd, joined on stage by Adem Custic on drums, John Martin on
lead guitar, Liam Houchen bass guitar and Peter Oag on keys and
arrangement. I decided then
if their music was half as attractive as their looks we were in for a
good time and boy did I enjoy their set.
The first track we heard was called “Visions of You” as the
set went on we became more convinced we wanted to hear more. Since
getting home we became friends of Jersey Budd on Facebook and went to www.jerseybudd.com
and got my first ever download album, ‘Wonderlands’. We also got to
meet the guys on the way out at the end of the evening and they seemed
genuinely lovely.
As for the main attraction Amy Macdonald! She
must nearly have gone through her two albums the first ‘This is the
Life’ plus newly released ‘A Curious Thing’, and this 22-year-old
writes as well performs her own numbers. During this tour she is joined
on stage by, Sam on drums, Mark guitar, Shannon keyboards and Benn on
bass, no second names were given.
Although it is very early in her tour the stage
show is very slick and with the help of two guitar technicians there was
hardly a pause between songs. With the effective staging and very little
chat from Amy she managed to fit in many more numbers than other singers
or bands would have done, and the quality was superb. Being
hypercritical Amy occasionally put herself down, but to be honest the
mistakes she mooted really didn’t exist to us.
All I can say was that this was a phenomenal
concert from start to finish, a top quality new singer / band and a
young lady whose talent is as apparent and top quality on stage as it is
on record. To Geoff’s delight I most certainly look forward to seeing
both Jersey Budd and Amy Macdonald again and hopefully soon.
