Deep
Blue Theatre have been a must on our Fringe list ever since their
production of Chess two years ago, so I was delighted to see that
they were back and with two shows not one.
It
was decided that I should cover Cabaret and I have to admit was
looking forward to it, but came away feeling a little flat.
All
the ingredients were there, two menacing M.C.s Kit Kat Club girls
that danced, posed and well, an excellent band and generally good
singing voices. I felt at times the direction did little for me
and the use of props on the minimalistic set did not assist this
feeling.
There
is however a bright shining light, at that is the stage presence
and truly magnificent singing voice of Saratha Rajeswaran as Sally
Bowles. Her performance is worth the admission money on it's own.
If she doesn't become a major musical star there is no justice in
this world.
***
Alternating
with Cabaret is Guys and Dolls, which will be covered shortly.
