I
thought I had seen every variation possible for productions of
'Little Shop of Horrors' not so! We enter a room full of people in
dark suits, white shirts, black ties and shades.
They start to tell us a story of 'Skid Row'
introducing Mushnik (Russell Carrington) the owner of The Skid Row
florist’s, shop girl Audrey (Lyndsey McCree) and dogsbody Seymour
(Thomas Holmes). We are then taken through the love story between
Seymour and Audrey and the involvement of a strange new form of
plant life ‘Audrey II’ (Rachel Calandro) and ex-boyfriend Orin
(Stephen Marsden).
The men and women in black play all the
other characters, parts, objects etc, etc thus giving this
production a different dimension.
The use of the performance space is inventive, and the
performances are good although there are no fantastic voices within
the company. This is a very creditable and enjoyable twist to an
excellent musical.
How am I able to remember the show?
I did not look into the light!
