The Lion and The Jewel

The chief of the Senegalese village is seen as the Lion, his jealousy is raised when one of the young beauties has photographs published in a book of the area. She is not only on the cover but on two other full pages, where his picture is in a tiny corner beside the latrines.
The School master also wishes to wed this jewel but his modern ways, preclude him from paying the bride price, without which she will not marry. The Chief's senior wife is sent to invite the jewel to the palace, but she is wary as those who enter never leave but become brides.
This is a cautionary tale displaying how pride comes before a fall and how the young think themselves worldly the cunning old fox is still able to twist things to get what he wants.
