When the world’s powers are bored what
do they do but put a ban on something making it illegal. On this
occasion the substance is Tea, it is now against the law to
possess, sell, make or drink Tea.
Timothy Potts (Daniel Sofaer) is the hero of our tale
forever in trouble for possessing teabags, called to the
headmasters office where he meets Rosie-Lea (Gemma Knight), who is
also in trouble. Tim lives with his mother Phyllis (Sarah Cramer)
who is a drunken lay-about. Rosie
lives with her mother, Grandfather (Raymond Sacks) and stepfather
Earl Grey (Robin Moss) ex-army and a stickler for the rules.
Tea the musical is their story, where a
dependency however simple causes problems when banned.
Some of the songs in the show are very
clever and quite catchy but why did the headmaster who had just
given them detention join them and sing about it from the pupils
point of view. There were one or two other little points which
screamed out as wrong.
Otherwise it is quite a good little
musical and a pleasant way to spend some time during the Fringe.
