Just occasionally during every Fringe one
encounters what can only be described as a gem, and I am so
pleased to report that in this show I have certainly encountered
such a piece.
This world premier based on the songs of
American Indie band Ben Folds Five with the book written by Matt
Charman has it all, a good story, fine music, tight direction by
Gari Jones and as for the actors, William Mannering as Murphy,
Simon Delaney as Vincent, Mark Wells as Tom and Hellene Henderson,
the lone female as Frankie each add their undoubted talent and
superb vocals to the accompaniment of the on stage three piece
band.
The
intimate venue and rather cramped acting space add to the feeling
that the story is being delivered to the individual and not to a
large audience and that we are attending a wake for Steven, with
two of his friends and his sister. Steven has never left his home
town while the others have all gone away, returning for the
funeral. And that's where the story begins...
