Once on this Island
American High School Theatre Festival
Once on this Island is a very lively and dramatic example of musical theatre that certainly doesn't suffer from over exposure that does haunt some pieces.
As part of the American High School Festival Theatre experience Bexley Theatre Arts Department perform a very creditable version of the peasant girl Ti Moune and her love for a rich young man from the other side of the island. Add to the mix a smattering of Gods, animals, trees, rich people and peasants all portrayed by this energetic troupe.
The dancing and costumes are spectacular, the ensemble singing was excellent also, however one or two voices were not quite up to the demands of the solo numbers, this may be improved if unlike the night I saw the mikes had worked. Still that did not detract too much from an enjoyable show.
This show is on a very limited run so get your ticket soon if you want to catch to catch this experience.
