In
the 1850’s a young woman tries to end her relationship with
Pierre Emile L’Angelier to become engaged to a man more
acceptable to her family.
Shortly after purchasing an amount of Arsenic, for her
complexion, her lover is found the victim of a lethal
administration of the poison.
Madeleine
Hamilton Smith is either an innocent victim of her spurned lovers
fatal revenge or, as others saw her, an oversexed, seductive
psychopath, yet she received the “not proven” verdict from the
jury at her trial.
This
new musical, which had its world première on The 9th August 2003
as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, is one view of the case.
The
cast of 15 portray all the characters in the case, with 15 scenes
16 songs and 52 sumptuous costumes, apart from the late time slot
this is a very enjoyable show.
