Little Shop of Horrors
Mean Green Productions
Mean Green productions present their version of 'The Little Shop of Horrors' in the Big Belly at 11pm. This late night slot in the dark dingy venue seems to suit the show.
The production itself is fairly basic but thoroughly enjoyable apart from the overpowering band, there are occasions where the lyrics are lost because of the volume from the band.
Seymour (Philip Doyle) looks too well built for me to accept in the role, although his vocal talents made up for that.
Audrey (Jane Lawson) suited the role and had a good voice.
Mushnik (Joseph Millington) Ronnette (Sarah-Jane Franklin), Crystal (Jenny Kent), Chiffon (Sam Partridge) and Greg Aldam as Orin and other parts had occasions when they were brilliant mixed with times when they were mediocre. Unfortunately the night I saw this show the performances were all inconsistent which spoiled it for me. Had they managed to turn in consistent performances with the volume of the band at a steady level this show could have been brilliant as it was it was only good.
