Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
American High School Theatre Festival
It has now been many years since Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote this biblical based musical primarily for school children. It has of course been a major touring show under the Bill Kenwright banner and Lloyd Webber himself staged the production in London and on tour starring such luminaries as Jason Donovan and Philip Schofield in the UK and Donny Osmond in the USA, amongst others.
This production by Park Centre High School Brooklyn Park Minnesota had few of the sophistications of the professional productions, but made good use of the space and talent that was on stage.
The 20 plus cast were all very lively and well drilled by the director, choreographer and singing coach, but by far and away the stand out pair were Narrator Christine Asp and the Donny Osmond clone Ricardo Vazquez as Joseph.
If I were being ultra critical I would question the costumes. There was a general beige feel and I personally thought that Joseph's coat could have been more colourful than it was, but this did not mar what was an excellent performance.
