I
love the musicals Cabaret and Chicago both written by John Kander
and Fred Ebb.
Flora the Red Menace is the first musical from the same
creators but I personally don’t think it is up to the standards
of the other two.
I
didn’t find the storyline or musical numbers particularly
exciting or memorable.
Flora (Sarah Lane) Maszaros, a young fashion illustrator
struggling to get a job and make her mark on society, meets and
falls in love with Harry (Iain Davey) Toukarian.
Although Harry has feelings for Flora the Communist Party
is the first love of his life, hampered by this and the fact that
one of the other comrades will do anything to keep the two apart
is the crux of the musical.
Flora lives and works in a shared loft and it is here we
meet most of the other characters.
A
very interesting musical to see from the historical point of view
and for the talented cast, but not one of the fantastic shows I
have seen this Fringe.
