A Chorus Line
Deep Blue Theatre
This company had a reputation to uphold after last years production of 'Chess'. I think they lived up to it if not exceeded it in their performance of 'A Chorus Line'. It helps that I love this show but think it is not performed often enough!
Despite the area restrictions, they thought they had more space on the performance area, the dance routines were spectacular although not seen to there best advantage. The costumes being rehearsal gear almost anything goes and we had a variety of colours and textures to please the eye. Lighting effects could possibly have been used to slightly better advantage.
Now for the cast! With 16 performing members and a band of 5 this is a reasonably large company and that is not including the crew and creative team who altogether are to be congratulated on this magnificent production. Every one of those on stage are talented some dance better than others, others sing better and even more are equally talented at both. I always feel guilty mentioning some cast and not the others but there were a few who for me stood out amongst these are: Sara Rajeswaran as Diana, we spotted Sara last year in 'Chess' and her performance was just as good, Meriel Raymond as Kristine proved how well she can sing to do it so badly in her duets with Richard Holdsworth as All her husband. Kari Moffatt as Cassie had our deepest sympathies as her voice cracked towards the end of the show but she soldiered on admirably.
With the quality of performance they have put on these last two shows and the fact that Chorus line is virtually sold out for this year I will be sure and get my ticket extra early to enjoy any further shows they put on in the future. I also look forward to seeing past members in the West End or on Tour.
