Baby
Royal Holloway Music Theatre
Baby has to be one of the best musicals I have seen on the fringe so far and I have seen some good stuff.
The Royal Holloway Music Theatre have put on some quality shows in the past, Merrily we roll along, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Kiss of the spider woman  and Sweeney Todd  but I think this is the best so far.
Although aware of Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire, I had not herd of 'Baby' before but it is full of great songs, solos, duet’s and full chorus numbers. It is well produced and choreographed. The six main characters are all well acted and have beautiful voices.
Leonie Heaton as Lizzie and her boyfriend Danny, Will Barratt are in their 20's and just starting out in life. Pam, Ruth Williams and partner Nick, Tom Minor are in their 30's and desperate for a child. Finally Arlene, Cherise Wesson and husband Alan, David Siebert have had their family and 20th wedding anniversary and are looking forward to the rest of their lives.
The link? Apart from living in or working on campus, the three women discover at the same time that they are expecting! The show revolves round the three relationships and events over the next 9 months.
A neat well through out set utilizing cast members as scene changers, imaginative use of the stage, bright costumes and an excellent cast go together to make this a show you shouldn’t miss if you like good musical theatre.
