Well
timed or just clever planning auditioncall present 'Songs of Leonard
Cohen'. Following his sell out gig at Edinburgh Castle which we couldn't
get tickets for it was great to see some Leonard Cohen being
performed at the Fringe.
Ross
Jarrett on piano and vocals, Lewis Oakley percussion and Louie
Utterson main vocals, narration and executive producer guide us
through some eight of the better known Cohen songs, interspersed
with readings of some of his poetry and personal history. All of the
musical numbers have been slightly adapted
by the company leading to slight variations in well known
arrangements.
This
show was not only a joy to listen to but the view was far from
unacceptable. These three handsome young men display their musical
talents to near perfection obviously greatly appreciated by the near
capacity audience. Geoff could not get a ticket on the day he went
to see the show and I was lucky to get one of the last available.
Director
/ Producer John Foley has done a great job but with the quality of
material both Cohen’s and the cast it couldn’t have been too
difficult a task.
A
must for Cohen fans or just those who appreciate good live music.
